The polling centres on the Dhaka University campus under the Dhaka-8 constituency witnessed a poor presence of voters in the 12th general election on Sunday morning.

Besides, no agent of any other candidates, except for boat and flower garland symbols, was seen at the polling stations.

Only seven votes were cast out of 1,910 at the University Laboratory School centre until 8:30am.

There are a total of 2,206 voters at Udayan Higher Secondary School centre, while around 50 of them cast their ballots around 9am.

Some 50 votes were cast at the Science Annex Building centre until 9:30 in the morning. Only 23 voters, among 2,079, exercised the franchise at the Curzon Hall centre until 9:40am.

Around 100 voters among 2,010 voters cast their ballots at the Fine Arts Faculty polling station until 10am.

Mohammad Dulal Mia, presiding officer at the Science Annex Building centre, said the voter turnout has been low so far. “Hopefully the number of voters will increase with the passage of time.”

DU Teachers' Association (DUTA) President Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan cast his vote at the University Laboratory School centre. “I came to the polling station at 8am. Voters are coming to the polling station gradually.”
