The followers of Jatiya Sangsad Whip Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury stabbed an upazila Swechchha Sebok League leader leaving him critically injured.

The incident took place on Thursday night at Patiya upazila in Chattogram district.

The injured was identified as SM Fakrul Alam Sajib, 45, Organising Secretary of upazila Swechchha Sebok League.

Sources said Sajib was returning home riding his bike from the electoral office of AL nominated candidate Motaherul Islam Chowdhury at around 11:30am. When he reached Goiralar Tek area, the followers of Whip Shamsul intercepted and stabbed with sharp weapon leaving him critically injured.

They also set his bike on fire. When locals came forward the attackers left the scene, sources said.

After the attack, Sajib was rushed to Patiya Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Junglekhain Union Parishad Chairman Shahadat Hossain Sabuj reportedly led the attack, sources said.

Jasim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patiya Police Station, said they were investing into the matter.

AL candidate Motaherul and other senior leaders visited the injured leader.
