A confident Bangladesh national women’s team will be looking to clinch their maiden WODI series victory over their South African counterparts when they take on the hosts in the second match of the three-match series at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom today.
The visitors are currently leading the series by a 1-0 margin after they registered their first win over South Africa on foreign soil when they outplayed the hosts by 131 runs in the series opener at the Buffalo Park in East London on Saturday.
Top-order batsman Murshida Khatun struck a career-best unbeaten 91 off 100 balls to help the Tigresses post 250-3 in their 50 overs - their highest total in this format - before left-arm spinner Nahida Akter (3-33) led the spin bowling attack from the front to bowl their opposition all out for 131 runs.
The victory was also Bangladesh’s biggest win in this format by runs.
Both the teams previously played four bilateral WODI series with South Africa winning all the series but this time, Bangladesh have the chance to rewrite history by clinching yet another famous win in the ongoing tour.
“I’m proud of them (the players) for the way they applied themselves and challenged them. So far so good but it’s a big opportunity for us and I feel if we can play to our potential, we can earn our maiden ODI series win over South Africa,” head coach Hashan Tillakaratne said on the eve of the crucial encounter.
“They have adjusted to the condition very well and also expressed themselves in the middle beautifully both with bat and ball,” he concluded.
The match is scheduled to start at 06:00pm (BST).
