Islamic University (IU) observed International Human Rights Day 2023 in a befitting manner at the campus in Kushtia on Saturday. This year's theme of the day was 'Freedom, Equality and Justice for All.'
Marking the Day, the Department of 'Law and Land Management' of the university brought out a procession from the Mir Mosharraf Hossain academic building, which ended at the Mrittunjoyee Mujib mural.
Later, a short discussion was held there.
Associate Prof Shahida Akhter presided over the program, while VC Prof. Dr. Sheikh Abdus Salam was the chief guest. Treasurer Prof. Dr. M Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan spoke over the program as a special guest. Before that, they released pigeons as a sign of freedom for humanity.
Addressing the program, VC Dr. Salam said On this Human Rights Day, let's address the critical Rohingya displacement issue impacting Bangladesh. The forced deprivation of Rohingyas, paralleling the situation in Gaza, is a severe human rights violation. Today, unity is crucial to fortify global human rights and hold powerful nations accountable to their declared principles.
Around four hundred students from different batches of the 'Law and Land Management' department participated in the program.
