Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested eight accused from different parts in the capital Dhaka in connection with the Beauty Begum murder case.
The arrestees are identified as Zainal, 40, Sakib, 22, Ashik, 22, Abdullah, 29, Sajib, 22, Ziaul Haque, 45, Pappu, 25 and Dipu, 20.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Zulfikar Ali, company commander of RAB-3, said a team of the elite force conducted raids at different parts of the capital Dhaka, including Paltan, Ramna and Suhrawardy Udyan and arrested them on Tuesday.
There had been a longstanding dispute over land between Habibur Rahman alias Harez, former vice chairman of Rupganj Upazila Parishad and Jaher Ali, a land trader in the area, Zulfikar said.
On 20 November, the accused, equipped with sharp weapons, carried out attacks on Jaher Ali and his followers, Kamal Hossain.
At one stage, they set Kama’s house on fire after pouring petrol. Kamal’s wife Beauty Begum, 50, sustained serious burn injuries.
As her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka where she passed away.
