The Education, Research and Development Forum of Bangladesh (ERDFB), a platform of university teachers, has expressed deep grief and sorrow at the death of Ambassador Waliur Rahman, a valiant freedom fighter and former foreign secretary.

In a condolence message, ERDFB president Prof Sazzad Hossain, also a member of University Grants Commission (UGC), said that ambassador Waliur Rahman protested against the brutal killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.

“His (Ambassador Waliur) courageous role against injustice and injustice will be remembered forever. He also played an important role in bringing back the murderers of Bangabandhu into the country,” he said.

Dr Sazzad Hossain thinks the death of Waliur Rahman during this crucial time of the country is an irreparable loss for the country and the nation.

ERDFB prayed for the bereavement of the departed soul and expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

Former diplomat and Secretary Waliur Rahman died on Wednesday in hospital care. He was 80. He served as special envoy to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina (1997-1998).

He also served as executive director of Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs (BILIA). Waliur Rahman served as founder chairman of Bangladesh Heritage Foundation until his death.

Ambassador Waliur Rahman presented as chief guest at an ERDFB discussion on 'foreign interference in the electoral system of an independent sovereign state' at Dhaka University on October 13 this year. He was a well-wisher of ERDFB.
