Awami League will not support any decision to defer the polling date, the party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader categorically said on Wednesday.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, told reporters at the political office of the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka this noon.

“We will not accept any deferral of polling date. Awami League wants an inclusive election to be conducted in a competitive manner. However, a certain political party remains out of the electoral process. They want to foild the election,” Quader said.

Earlier on November 27 while speaking at a preparatory meeting in Bogura, Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana said that if BNP decides to join the 12th parliamentary election, it must be held by January 28.

There is no opportunity to go beyond the timeframe according to the constitution, she added.
