2nd day of 48-hr blockade underway amid arson attacks

The second day of the 48-hour nationwide blockade enforced by BNP and like-minded opposition parties is underway amid arson attacks.
The blockade started at 6am on Sunday and will end at 6am on Tuesday.
11:30am/Three buses torched in Natore
Three buses were set on fire at Banpara in Baraigram upazila of Natore in the early hours of Monday.
The buses of GM Travels Paribahan were parked at Patwari Filling Station owned by Awami League lawmaker from the Natore-4 constituency Md Siddiqur Rahman Patwari.
Nazmul Hossain, a staff of the filling station, said they found the buses being burnt around 4:30am. Being informed, firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, he added.
Baraigram police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Azam Khan said they are working to identify the perpetrators.
10:50am/Bus set alight in Naogaon
Miscreants set fire to a bus in Mohadevpur upazila of Naogaon on Sunday night.
The bus of Rahi Travels which was parked beside a road opposite to Masud Petrol Pump was set on fire around 11:30pm, said Abul Kalam Azad, inspector (investigation) of Mohadevpur police station.
The police were investigating the incident, he added.
In the capital, the presence of public transport on the streets was higher compared to previous blockades, despite tension and fear of violence.
Law enforcers were seen patrolling the streets and remained deployed at important points in Dhaka. As many as 230 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order.
Besides, Awami League leaders and activists were also seen taking position at places in the city to resist the blockade supporters.
