A cocktail was exploded on the premises of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court in Dhaka after the bail hearing of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Witnesses said nobody was injured in the incident.

Mohiuddin Riaft, a journalist who was present on the premises during the incident, said that after blasting the cocktail, people started to move to and fro as they were scared.

He also said, “The incident took place before my very eyes. No one was injured in the incident. There was a huge police presence during the incident, but how it happened cannot be learnt. Police cordoned the place soon after the incident.”

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was not produced before court on the day, confirmed the journalist.

Additional public prosecutor of the court Tapas Pal said that the crude bomb blast took place near the flagpole in front of the court building around 4pm on Monday, soon after rejecting the bail plea of Mirza Fakhrul.

On Monday evening, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Shahinul Islam told the Daily Sun that the police had filed a case in connection to the incident.

However, police sources claimed that in CCTV footage, it was seen that a man and a woman were blasting cocktails on the court premises wearing burqas.

Deputy Commissioner (Lalbag Crime Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Zafar Hossain told the media that they identified the people and were conducting drives to arrest them.

In another incident, two cocktails were reported to have been blasted in front of a road in Mouchank Market in Dhaka.
