Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 after he suffered an injury to his left Index finger while batting against Sri Lanka during their eighth game of the tournament in Delhi on Monday.

The X-ray was conducted after the game that confirmed a fracture and it made him unable to feature in Bangladesh's last match of the tournament against Australia in Pune on November 11.

"Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab," national team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said in a statement on Tuesday.

Shakib, the world's number one all-rounder, scored 82 off 65 balls to guide the side to a three-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.

He had earlier taken two wickets for 57 runs in a player-of-the-match performance.

Shakib earlier missed his side's World Cup game against India in Pune after he felt discomfort near his left quadriceps while batting during the match against New Zealand in Chennai.

Bangladesh are already out of the race of qualifying for the semis, are currently placed at seventh in the 10-team points table with four points from eight matches.
