Sheikh Russell is a name of feeling and love for the children and youth of the country, Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's electoral area (Gopalganj-3 constituency) development programme coordinator, said on Tuesday.

“Russell is alive among all across the country,” he said.

Shahid Ullah, also a former senior secretary, paid deep respect to the memory of Russell, marking the 60th birthday of the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said the cruelest event in the world had taken place on 15 August 1975, when Russell was assassinated with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu.

Russell, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on 18 October in 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi road number 32 in the capital.

Sheikh Russell Day will be observed in the country on Wednesday in a befitting manner coinciding with his 60th birthday.
