Dhaka has been ranked as the most polluted city this morning in terms of Air Quality Index (AQI).

The capital of Bangladesh ranked first in the list of cities worldwide with the worst air quality securing a score of 186 at 8:55am on Tuesday.

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), Indonesia's Jakarta is in second place. The city has a score of 169 and India's Mumbai is in third place. The city's score is 166; meaning Mumbai's air is also unhealthy.

South Asia becomes one of the most polluted regions in the world due to rising trend of air contamination. Analysts expect life expectancy to decline by more than five years per person in south Asian countries.

The World Bank's Dhaka office said, nine of the world's 10 most polluted cities are in South Asia this year. Dhaka is one of them. Air pollution is responsible for about 20 percent of all premature deaths in Bangladesh.
