AL finalises party candidates for by-polls to B’baria-2 and Lakshmipur-3

The ruling Awami League (AL) on Sunday finalised party candidates for by-elections of Brahmanbaria-2 and Lakshmipur-3 constituencies.
Among them, AL-nominated Shahjahan Alam Saju will compete for by-polls in Brahmanbaria-2, while Mohammad Golam Faruk Pinku will contest for Lakshmipur-3.
The two nominations were decided at a meeting of the AL Parliamentary Nomination Board held at Ganabhaban, official residence of the Prime Minister in the capital. AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
After the meeting, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader disclosed the names of party nominated candidates to journalists who were eagerly waiting at Ganabhaban gate in the capital.
Other members of the parliamentary nomination board Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim, Abul Hasanat Abdullah and Obaidul Quader were present in the meeting.
The two constituencies were vacant after the demise of Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, lawmaker from Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, and AKM Shahjahan Kamal, lawmaker from Laxmipur-3 constituency. Both lawmakers died on September 30 in the capital.
The Election Commission announced the by-election schedule for these two constituencies on October 3. According to the schedule, the polling will be held on November 5.
