Moderate earthquake shakes Bangladesh

A moderate earthquake was felt in the capital and some other parts of the country on Monday evening.

The quake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale rattled the North Garo Hills of Meghalaya in India. It was 10 kilometre depth from the surface, according to National Center for Seismology of the Government of India.

The earthquake occurred around 6:45 am and the epicentre of the quake located in Assam Meghalaya of India Region was 236 km north of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) Seismic Centre, Agargaon, according to BMD.

However, the USGS, an official website of the United States government data, showed the intensity of the earthquake was 5.4 on the Richter scale.
