Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the day of birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), is being observed in the country today with due religious solemnity.
Muslims throughout the country will offer special prayers on the occasion. Different government and non-government organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the country’s people and Muslims across the world on the occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
In separate messages, they underscored the need for following the ideals of the Prophet for peace and prosperity.
In his message, President Mohammed Shahabuddin said holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi is a sacred and important day for Muslims of the entire world.
Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) had emerged as ‘Sirajam Monira’, the enlightened light in the world, he said, adding, “He showed the path of light in the era of sinful acts, injustice, falsehood and darkness and established a society based on truth, beauty and justice.”
The head of state said the Prophet has been successful in discharging his duty of establishing ‘Tawhid’ by establishing Islam, the religion of peace, in the world with his limitless tolerance, hard work, devotion and sufferings and preached the messages of the holy Quran across the world.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said Allah had sent Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) as ‘Rahmatullil Alamin’ for peace, emancipation, progress and overall welfare of the whole world.
On this day in 570, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah of Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind. He also passed away on the same day in 632 in Madina.
The day is a public holiday in the country.
