‘Adarsha Hindu Hotel’ is arguably one of the iconic novels by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. Published in 1940, the novel delves into the life of a hotel cook – Hajari Thakur – who dreams big, and despite clashes from his co-worker Padma and owner Bechu Chakraborty, opens his own hotel.
The novel has been adapted for an OTT project, and will be helmed by Tollywood director Arindam Sil. Renowned Bangladeshi actor Mosharraf Karim will be seen playing the lead character Hajari Thakur in the web series.
Produced by Camellia Productions, the Indian OTT platform ‘Friday’ is scheduled to be launched soon. ‘Adarsha Hindu Hotel’ is lined up for the platform.
Earlier, ‘Adarsha Hindu Hotel’ has been adapted on screens several times. In 1957, Ardhendu Sen made a film with Chhabi Biswas, Dhiraj Bhattacharya, Sabitri Chatterjee, Jahar Ganguly, and others. Years later, legendary actor Manoj Mitra played Hajari Thakur in Raja Sen’s television adaptation of the novel for Doordarshan.
Besides, Mosharraf Karim-starrer upcoming Tollywood film ‘Hubba’ is wating for its release. The actor has played the character of Hubba Shyamal, a notorious gangster from West Bengal’s Hooghly district, in the film.- Agency report
