Students of the Bangladesh and Muktijuddho Studies (BMS) Department of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) threatened to begin ‘fast unto death’ if their demand of changing degree name is not met.
The students also demanded keeping the name of the department unchanged.
The students announced the new protest programmes in a press conference held in front of Bir Muktijuddha Haji Mohammad Idris Auditorium of the university on Monday.
BMS department student Abdullah Al Mamun Sabbir read out the written statement at the press conference.
They alleged that the students are facing various problems in the job market after passing graduation (honours) from the department due to degree related complications.
“Being worried about our future, we have been continuing a peaceful movement by boycotting classes and exams for the last four months. But the authorities did not pay heed to our demand of resolving the degree related problem,” they said.
Mentioning that they will not return to class, the students said they will go for fast unto death if their demand is not met within the next ten days.
