Barguna: A single trawler that went on fishing into the deep sea has caught 39 mounds of hilsa in five days.
The hilsa were sold for more than Tk16 lakh at country’s second largest fish landing centre in Patharghata upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The trawler named FBRS-2 carrying the hilsa arrived at the fish landing centre on Wednesday morning after catching fish in the deep sea for five days.
The owner and 11 other fishermen of the trawler are delighted to catch so many hilsa in one go, after being in the sea for only five days.
Md Anwar Hossain, owner of the Trawler said, “I have never caught such a big amount of fish at once on my trawler. Now I will be able to overcome the losses that were incurred during government imposed fishing ban.”
Md Manir, a fisherman of the trawler said, all of the hilsa they caught is weighing from 800 grams to 1.5 kilogram.
In this regard, Barguna District Fisheries Officer Biswajit Kumar Dev said that fishing in deep sea was prohibited for 65 days from May 20 to July 23. Now, fishermen are getting the benefit of the fishing ban.
