The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), a specialised unit of Bangladesh Police, has arrested two fugitive war crime suspects from Taranipur area under Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district.

The arrestees were identified as Md Abdul Aziz alias Aziz Commander, 82, son of late Pute Gazi, and Md Surat Ali Gazi, 76, son of late Sher Ali Gazi, said a press release today.

He said the elite force conducted a drive and arrested them, inhabitants of the Taranipur village of Shyamnagar upazila, on Monday.

Police said the accused were involved in the killing of mass people Vetkhali-Joyakhali Kheyaghat area under Shyamnagar during the Liberation War on October 27, 1971.

Earlier, International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued an arrest warrant against them in 2017. Since then, they had been remained absconding.
