DSCC declares Tk 6,751.56cr budget for FY24

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a budget of Taka 6,751.56 crore for fiscal year of
2023-24.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh announced the budget at Mayor Hanif Auditorium at Nagar Bhaban. The DSCC also approved revised budget Tk. 997.75 crore for the financial year 2022-23.

The revenue income in the new budget from own source is Tk. 1,396.85 crore, Tk. 102.75 crore will come from other sectors and Tk. 4,523.82 crore will come from government and foreign sources.

The mayor said that spreading of mosquitoes, especially Aedes mosquitoes, is one of the obstacles in the city dwellers, adding, "Therefore, after assuming the office, we have brought radical changes in mosquito control activities and management."

"A year-round integrated mosquito control programme has been started. Under this new programme, adequate recruitment of manpower, supply of quality pesticides and necessary equipment is being ensured at the field level," he said.

Taposh said the budget for the financial year 2023-24 with the intention of accurately reflecting aspirations of people of Dhaka south city over the last 3 years and implementation for a sustainable 'Developed Dhaka's Progress of Development'.

However, there was an average of only four mosquito workers per ward and only one mosquito supervisor for every 4/5 wards.

But taking charge of the city mayor, he appointed more than seven hundred mosquito workers to strengthen mosquito control activities.

Currently 13 mosquito workers and one mosquito supervisor in each ward, i.e. a total of 14 people in each ward, a total of 1,500 workers are conducting mosquito control activities in 75 wards, he added.

The mayor said in the last three years, 375 new fogger machines were purchased for adulticide operations, 400 new manual machines for larviciding operations and 25 new wheel machines for Culex mosquito control operations.

During the press briefing DSCC chief executive officer Mizanur Rahman, ward councilors and officials concerned of the corporation were present.

Beginning of the press conference Mayor Taposh Earlier, paid his cordial tribute to the memory of the greatest Bangali of all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 30 lakh brave martyrs for their supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation and 2 lakh mothers and sisters were disgraced.

Taposh also paid deep respect to all the brave martyrs including Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib, Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal, Sheikh Russel, his father Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, his mother Samsunnesa Arju Moni, who were martyred in the dark night of August 15, 1975.
