The ruling Awami League (AL) will stage demonstration across the country from 10am to 5pm today protesting BNP's arson terrorism while the party's all affiliated bodies will also join the programme.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the programme following an emergency joint meeting at the party's Bangabandhu Avenue central office on Saturday afternoon.
AL leaders, Dhaka city lawmakers, presidents and general secretaries of Dhaka city north and south units of the party and its associate bodies joined the meeting.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said BNP again started its fire terrorism as the recurrence of the incidents, taken place in 2013, 2014 and 2015, has begun.
Under the circumstances, AL leaders and activists cannot remain silent, he said.
"BNP is claiming that they are being obstructed to observe their programme. They are blockading all entry points to the capital. Is it (the country) Tarique Rahman's own property?" he said.
"What we had feared has happened now. BNP's one-point movement is for carrying out arson terrorism. The party wanted to do so on Friday too. But due to Awami League's strong stance, they could not unleash sabotage and disorder," he said.
He said BNP carried out attacks and set fire on a total of seven buses in the capital. Police sub-inspector (SI) Nahid was beaten indiscriminately in Dholaikhal intersection and Narayanganj district's Siddhirganj thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mostafa came under attack.
BNP men carried out attack on Dhaka City North AL worker Muhibur Rahman Nayan and chopped his wrist, he mentioned.
Noting that BNP doesn't abide by law, the AL general secretary said fugitive convict Tarique Rahman violated the court's order.
The High Court banned broadcast, publication and dissemination of speeches and statements of BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who is convict in several cases, he said.
"Tarique is making contempt of court. He is insulting Supreme Court and High Court with very abusive languages. Yesterday, even he said there will be no problem of money for murders. What is he doing in London? From where he gets such huge amount of money," he questioned.
The minister said London is facing economic crisis but Tarique Rahman has available money.
"Tarique's father Ziaur Rahman had said money is no problem in politics. Likewise his father he also says there will no problem in supplying money in movement. Is he out of the purview of law?" he said.
Obaidul Quader chaired the emergency meeting while AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Faruk Khan, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, Qamrul Islam and Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Joint General Secretaries--Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Organising Secretaries SM Kamal Hossain and Mirza Azam, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, International Affairs Secretary Dr Shammi Ahmed, Education and Manpower Secretary Shamsun Nahar Chapa, Deputy Publicity and Publications Secretary Abdul Awal Shamim, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan, Executive Members Anwar Hossain, Sahabuddin Farazi, Marufa Akter Poppy, Tarana Halim and Professor Mohammad A Arafat, Dhaka City South Al President Abu Ahmed Mannafi and Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash joined the meeting, among others.
