Body of one of the two missing boys was retrieved from the Padma River on Saturday afternoon a day after they drowned in the river.

The deceased is 12-year-old Siam, son of Shukkur Ali of Satbaria area in Rajshahi city and the missing is 11-year-old Sanjid, son of Lebbas Ali of Char Satbaria area.

Locals said the boys went down the river to take baths in the Satbaria area around 11am on Friday. Subsequently they went missing due to heavy tides.

Divers from Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Civil Defence conducted salvage operations soon after they went missing but failed to trace on Friday.

Abdur Rauf, senior station officer of Rajshahi Fire Service, said they recovered Siam’s floating body from the river in Yusufpur area around 2:30pm.

Efforts are on to search out Sanjid, the officer added.
