DUNMUN begins at DU

Dhaka University National Model United Nations (DUNMUN) was inaugurated on Wednesday embarking upon the realm of diplomacy.

Held in Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of University of Dhaka, the conference set the stage for the grand opening of the biggest MUN Conference in Southeast Asia.

It brought together delegates from all over the country and beyond, marking a significant milestone in fostering diplomatic discussions and promoting global awareness among the youth.  Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, vice-chancellor of the university, attended the ceremony as the chief guest while Dr David Dowland, registrar at BRAC University, and Dr Delwar Hossain, moderator of DUMUNA, were present as special guests.

Dr Syed Muntasir Mamun, director general of ICT Wing of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was present as guest of honour while Mohammad Mamun Mia, former president of DUMUNA, joined as alumni guest.

The purpose of the DUNMUN-2023 is to provide participants with an immersive experience that simulates the work and procedures of the United Nations. This will enable participants to develop critical skills in areas such as diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking.

DUNMUN commenced its journey with the theme of, “Towards Equitable Governance: Embracing Data-Driven Transformation for An Inclusive World.”

In his speech, Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman said “Data has the capacity to bring about dramatic change, empowering us to develop policies, strategies, and decisions that guarantee an equitable and welcoming environment for all.”
