Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained Mahmudul Alam Babu, the prime suspect in the murder of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim in Jamalpur.
Babu, chairman of Sadhurpara Union Parishad and general secretary of Bakshiganj upazila Awami League, was detained by RAB in Panchagarh around 9:00am today, according to media reports.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin confirmed this information while talking to journalist.
RAB will disclose details in a press conference later in the day, he added.
Earlier, Babu, who went into hiding after the killing of Nadim, was suspended from Awami League for violating party discipline, according to party sources.
Mentionable, Nadim, 42, working as Jamalpur district correspondent of Banglanews24.com and Bakshiganj upazila correspondent of Ekattor TV, died on Thursday, a day after he was attacked and injured allegedly by some supporters of Babu in Bakshiganj.
