Speakers at a roundtable demanded tough and coordinated measures to prevent child marriage in the country.
World Vision and the daily Sangbad organised the roundtable titled “Prevention of child marriage: What are we doing, society and state thinking?” at Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) on Thursday.
In her speech, she underscored need for coordinated efforts of government, private organisations and influential people in the society to prevent child marriage.
ZI Khan Panna, senior lawyer of the Supreme Court, said child marriage continues amid loopholes of the law requiring amendment.
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad's Central Committee President Dr Fauzia Moslem said child marriage is a serious national crisis which needs to be addressed.
Speakers said child marriage increased amid Covid-19 as many girls became school dropouts during the pandemic.
