Country’s dengue situation is getting worse as the number of patients has crossed 1,000 last month by increasing around sixfold than the previous month.
Health experts said immediate integrated dengue management, including drive against the Aedes mosquito, can check the situation and save lives from the disease.
The DGHS data said 95 new dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country, including in Dhaka, in the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning.
However, no new death was reported from the dengue disease in the country during the period.
Of the 95 dengue patients, 82 were taken to hospitals of Dhaka city while the rest were admitted to hospitals outside the capital.
Earlier, 84 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the country in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning. No death from the deadly disease was reported during the period.
The DGHS data said a total of 283 dengue patients are now undergoing treatment throughout the country. Of them, 242 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka city.
It said 1,036 dengue patients were hospitalised and two of them died in May this year in the country.
Some 143 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals and two died in April while 111 dengue patients and zero death from the disease were reported in March.
Earlier, some 166 patients were admitted to hospitals and three died in February and 566 were hospitalised and six dengue patients died in January this year.
The DGHS report further said so far 2,022 dengue patients were detected and 13 died in the country in 2023. Of the total, 1,378 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the capital during the period.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahed Maleque at a press conference on Monday said the number of dengue patients has increased manifolds in the past five months this year than the same time of the previous year.
He said separate dengue wards and beds have already been set up at hospitals across the country, including in Dhaka, to ensure better treatment of dengue patients.
The minister put emphasis on maintaining a clean and healthy lifestyle to deal with the mosquito-borne disease and urged all to maintain it properly so that mosquito cannot be grown rapidly.
"We have taken all necessary measures to prevent dengue disease. We have directed all organisations concerned to take steps for stopping the outbreak of the disease," he added.
