A sister and her brother died and five others including three members of another family sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run autorickshaw in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla on Friday, said police.

The deceased were Saleha Begum, 45, and her younger brother Al-Amin, 35, offspring of one Siraj Miah of Kawyadi village under the upazila.

On the other hand, the injured are Md Nazmul, 25, his wife Rina Akter, 22, their daughter Nusrat, 3, another injured passenger Roksana, 30 and the auto’s driver Shanto.

Sudhorsan Chakma, a sub-inspector of Daudkandi Model Police Station, said the accident occurred at noon when the Dhaka-bound bus of Jainpur Paribahan collided with the autorickshaw heading from the opposite direction on Gouripur-Matlab road in Sheikhbari area.

The accident left the duo killed on the spot and five others critically injured, he said, adding the injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

All the victims except Shanto were passengers of the autorickshaw and both the vehicles were seized.
