Agriculture will be smart, machinery-dependent in future: experts

Existing manual-based agriculture will be transformed into smart and machinery-dependent for boosting production as the government has been working in this field relentlessly.

The government, under the dynamic and prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has given importance to popularise agricultural machinery among farmers with a view to increasing crop production.

Agriculture experts and extension officials made the observation while addressing a farmers' field-day meeting at Dhokrakul village under Puthiya upazila in the district on Monday.

Regional office of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) organised the meeting to mark the crop-cutting of an established 110-bigha demonstration plot of BRRIDHAN-92.

BRRI Director General (DG) Dr Shahjahan Kabir addressed the meeting as the chief guest with its Principal Scientific Officer Dr Fazlul Islam in the chair.

Additional Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Shamsul Wadud and Deputy Director Mozder Hossain also spoke.

Dr Shahjahan Kabir said the government has launched Khamari mobile App that contributes a lot towards building smart Bangladesh as it is very much effective in terms of digitizing the data and findings related to farming.

The App is time-fitting and need-oriented to the farmers and other beneficiaries. The farmers will get different kinds of information, including season-wise crops, land fertility, fertilizer recommendation, yield and seed through the App.

Apart from this, they will gather knowledge about crop zoning, crop diversification, crop production and farming technology.
As a whole, the App will bring a new horizon in the field of agriculture in future.

Shamsul Wadud said the present government, under the dynamic and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has attached priority to agriculture and attained remarkable success in the field of promoting farming technology and digitization.

The BRRI DG also attended another crop-cutting ceremony of BRRIDHAN-89 on 65-bigha of land at Darispur village under Boraigram upazila in Natore district.
