DHAKA, April 2, 2023 (BSS) - Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed today said that a total of eight housing and rehabilitation centers will be set up in eight divisional cities in the country.
"A project has been undertaken to build permanent housing and rehabilitation centers for persons with Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDDs). A total of eight housing and rehabilitation centers will be set up in eight divisional cities of the country," he said.
At present, the number of disabled people identified in the country is about 30 lakh, he said, adding that cent percent allowance for identified disabled persons and disabled students are getting stipend.
Besides, therapeutic services, special education, and trainings to the parent and caregiver for treating individuals with autism disorder and other NDDs are being given, he said.
Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, state minister for Social Welfare Ministry Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru said that the development is not possible without excluding any part of the society.
"Autistic individuals are being empowered with appropriate training and support," he added.
The state minister called upon the government as well as private and voluntary organizations to work together on the betterment of persons with autism.
"Due to various initiatives of the government, they have come into the mainstream of society. Various programs for the development of persons with disabilities should be accelerated," he added.
Later, the minister presented awards to ten individuals and three organizations for their special contribution to autism.
A cultural programme with the participation of children with autism was also arranged there.
