Prothom Alo Editor’s effigy brunt at Shahbagh
A group of students of Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday brunt the effigy of Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman.

A group of students of Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday brunt the effigy of Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman accusing him of undermining the country’s independence by publishing a report.

The students under the banner of ‘Common Students of DU’ burned the effigy at the Shahbagh intersection in the capital.

They also demanded immediate arrest of Matiur Rahman.

They kept the busy intersection blocked from 11:10am to 12:30pm.

The editor is hatching conspiracy against the state by publishing false and fabricated reports. So, he should be arrested in the case filed under the Digital Security Act. He should be punished under the Speedy Trail Tribunal, they claimed.

Although the programme was arranged under the banner of general students, the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League Dhaka University Unit were present there, said eyewitnesses.

A case was filed against Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman under the Digital Security Act (DSA) on Thursday.

The daily reporter Samsuzzaman Shams, an unnamed assistant cameraman and some others unnamed were also accused in the case filed with Ramna Police Station in the capital over a report published in the Bangla newspaper on March 26.
