CHATTOGRAM: Sitakunda upazila Jamaat ameer who is an accused of some 34 cases was arrested from the port city on Wednesday night.
The arrestee was identified as Touhidul Islam Chowdhury, 55, son of late Tafsil Ahmed Ukil of Namar Bazar area under the upazila.
Arrest warrant against him was issued in 16 of the cases.
Officer in-Charge (OC) Tofayel Ahmed of Sitakunda police station said Touhidul was the prime accused in a case filed for violence in 2014 with the Sitakunda police station.
He led many sabotage on Dhaka-Chattogram highway during the 2013-2014 period, he said.
On information, Touhidul was arrested from a rented house in the city’s Akbar Shah area at around 11:00pm.
He was produced before court on Thursday afternoon, the OC added.
