The price of broiler chicken at wholesale level is Tk 200 per kg, but is being sold at Tk 270 to Tk 290 in different markets. As a result, commoners have lost their purchase ability due to excessive price.

Consumer Rights will take legal measure, if the price of broiler chicken is not checked by tomorrow.   

Director General of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Rights Protection A H M Shafiquzzaman, FBCCI Senior Vice President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu and Bangladesh Shop Owners Association President Md Helal Uddin made the observation after visiting Banolata Kitchen Market at New Market in the capital today.   

They also think that except broiler chicken, other commodity prices are within the purchase capacity of the people.  

Besides, Consumer Rights hope that the market situation will become normal within 10 days of the Holy month of Ramadan.

After visiting the market, the DG of Consumer Rights said, “As per the observation, there is no logical ground of charging Tk 200 for per kg broiler chicken. We have given eight proposals to the government in controlling the price. Hope, those who are responsible will take proper initiative to mitigate the public sufferings. Cases will be filed against all stakeholders, including retail sellers, mills owners, if the price of broiler chicken is not controlled by tomorrow.”
