CHATTOGRAM: A container depot was fined Tk 3.5 lakh for lacking fire safety measures in the port city on Monday.

Chattogram district administration Magistrate Protik Dutta in a drive awarded the financial penalty to ‘Vertex Off Dock Logistic Services Ltd’ located at Kathgarh in the city’s Patenga area at around 12:00pm.

The magistrate said they found an unlicensed petrol pump inside the container depot.

The authority didn’t have approval for the pump and any fire safety measure despite operating the business for the last 22 years, he said.

The depot Senior Manager Sheikh Md Moajjem Hossain was fined Tk 210,000 during the drive in this connection, the magistrate added.
