The Ekushey February depicts the pain and grief of the Bengali nation, said Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.
Besides, the day is illuminated with supreme sacrifice of the language heroes, he added.
Patriotic students and youths took to the street flouting section 144 on February 21, 1952 to protest the unholy move of the then Pakistani ruler to announce Urdu as state language although East Pakistan was comprised of Bengali speaking people.
The Pakistani regime was so ruthless that law enforcers sprayed bullets upon the peacefully demonstrating students causing martyrdom of many.
Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan made the statement as leaders and activists of ruling Awami League’s Rupganj unit made a courtesy call on him at his residence on Sunday. They discussed programmes to observe the International Mother Language Day slated for February 21.
Chairman of Rongdhanu Group and Awami League leader Alhaj Rafiqul Islam attended the view-exchange as the special guest. Rupganj Upazila Chairman and Upazila Awami League general secretary Alhaj Shahjahan Bhuiyan presided over it.
