Police arrrested a younth along with 18 gold bars weighing 2.1 kilograms in Sadar upazila of Satkhira on Monday.

The arrestee was identifeid as Mithu Sardar, son of Md Showkat Ali, of Thanaghat area of the town.

Gaining information that a big consignment of gold is being smuggled to India, a team of police conducted a drive near Bakal bridge  at around 1:30am and nabbed Mithu along with his bike, said Abu Jihad Md Fakhrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station.

Later, 18 gold bars were recobvered from his bike, he said.

The estimated price of the gold is 1.65 crore, the OC said.
