Govt going ahead to attain SDGs in due time: Shamsul Alam

State Minister for Ministry of Planning Dr. Shamsul Alam said the government is now going ahead with its programmes to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in due time.

“The government has already taken projects based on necessity and public interest to achieve the SDGs. This government is successfully going ahead to attain the goals in due time,” he said.

The state minister came up with the statement while speaking at a view exchange meeting with representatives of WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) Network at his office in Sher-e-Banglanagar in the capital on Sunday.

About the WASH sector, Dr. Shamsul Alam said the money allocation in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector has been increased in the country’s 8th fifth year planning.

At the view exchange programme, Deputy Executive Director of the DORP (Development Organisation of the Rural Poor) Mohammad Zobair Hasan, also south Asian representative of Santional and Water for All Network, gave presentation about the situation of the country’s WASH sector.

In the meeting, the WASH sector representatives also placed five point proposals to attain the SDG-6.

The proposals are--Include CSO/NGOs in SDG-6 progress and VNR Preparation AND Budget Discussion and giving Priority to Climate Vulnerable Areas: Increase Pipeline water supply to reach poorest and achievement of SDG-6 indicators.

CSO engagement in DELTA Plan Implementation and Water Rules 2018 Implementation and Inclusion of 5 points of WASH sector in Election Manifesto: Increase Budget, reduce Urban-Rural inequality, pipeline water supply, hygiene/MHM Budget, the proposals added.
