1st Division Handball League begins Sunday

DHAKA : After a two-year recess, Cute 1st Division Handball League will begin from Sunday (Jan 29) at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium in the city.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, is expected to inaugurate the tournament as the chief guest while league sponsor Mousumi Industries Limited's chairman Kazi Razib Uddin Ahmed Chapal will be there as the special guest.

BHF president AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul will preside over the opening ceremony.

A total of six teams - old Ideal, Victoria Sporting Club, Star Sports, Monsur Sporting Club, Purbachal Parisad and Swathirtha Club - will compete in the league, sponsored by Mousumi Industries Limited and organised by Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF).

In this regard, a press conference was held today (Thursday) at conference room of Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium to provide all the details of the league.

BHF's general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor said out of the total league budget of Taka 4.75 lakh (Taka four lakh and seventy five thousand) sponsor Mousumi Industries Limited will provide Taka 2,00,000 two lakh (Taka two lakh) to run the league.

Kohinoor also informed that IHF trophy handball tournament will be held in May in Bangladesh in addition the federation has also plan to organize U-18 and U-21 women's handball tournaments.

Besides, the handball team will also take part in two tournaments in India, he added.

League committee's chairman Mozibul Haque and league committee's secretary Khalekuzzaman Swapan were also present at the press conference.
