PM working to reduce people’s sufferings: Shahid Ullah Khandaker

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working to reduce the sufferings of the people of this country.

“Since the beginning of winter, she (Prime Minister) gave warm clothes for distribution among the cold-hit people across the country. She gifts houses to the homeless and poor freedom fighters. Increased allowances for widows, elderly, disabled people. VGD and VGF have also  been arranged for poor people,” Shahid Ullah Khandaker, a retired senior secretary of the government who entrusted with implementing development activities in Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's constituency Gopalganj-3, said at a warm clothes distribution programme at Radhaganj union parishad under Kotalipara upazlia of Gopalganj on Friday.

In his speech as the chief guest, Shahid Ullah Khandaker applauded the strong leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for making Bangladesh a role model for development in the world.

The former secretary said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman always thought about the people of this country.

“Bangabandhu worked for the welfare of the people of this country since his childhood. He always spoke for justice. His privileged daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working for the welfare of the people of the country like her father,” Khandaker added.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ferdaus Wahid, Awami League’s union unit president Sarbananda Baida and upazila Chhatra League general secretary Rafiqul Islam spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, on Thursday night, Shahid Ullah Khandaker visited the houses of three families who were attacked for insulting the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in North Kandi village of Kandi union in the upazila.

UNO Ferdous Wahid, upazila AL general secretary Aynal Hossain Sheikh, Kandi union parishad chairman Tushar Madhu, Chhatra League general secretary Rafiqul Islam accompanied him.

A youth named Abir Adhikary insulted Prophet Muhammad ((Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) on his Facebook ID. Based on this, people of Muslim community of the surrounding area, including Satlagram of Uzirpur upazila of Barishal district, vandalised the residence of Makhan Lal Adhikary, Palash Adhikary and Santosh Adhikary of the house of Abir Adhikary in the area on Sunday.

 Later, Kotalipara police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. However, Abir Adhikary is currently in India, local people said.
