It is desirable to have a smart army: Army Chief

Chief of Army Staff General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed said it is desirable to have a smart army along with a smart Bangladesh.

Besides, he also said that the Bangladesh Army is moving forward with emphasis on modernization and training.

The army chief made these remarks after observed the final exercise of the Army's winter training exercise "Nobo Uddog" at Delduar in Tangail on Thursday.

General Shafiuddin said that Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Bangladesh army is also moving forward in the same way.

He said "It is desirable to have a smart army along with a smart Bangladesh. We are increasing the use of technology wherever possible to make the Army smarter."

"Our TA DA, the pay structure was old-fashioned, it has been digitised. Soon everyone will enjoy the results. I said it is a process, in this way we are taking the advantage of digitalisation in all aspects" he added.

Speaking to journalists, the army chief said, "We are taking the Bangladesh Army as smart as it needs to be in tune with the nation."

Stating that special importance is being given to training, the army chief said, "Winter training is ending today. You know that organising a training like this takes a lot of work. The Prime Minister told me, emphasize on training. We are moving forward to achieve 'Forces Goal 2030' by increasing training programs as per her instructions."

Quoting the Prime Minister, the army chief said that "if an army cannot gain the trust of the people, then that army cannot achieve success. No army in the world could win any war without the support of the people."

"That's why we always try to stay inside the people. So that the people of Bangladesh can have full confidence in our army and we can always get their full cooperation," he added.

After observing the final exercise, the army chief addressed the soldiers at an army gathering there. At this time, he gave many admonitions to keep the morale of the soldiers strong.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Army's three-week long winter training 2022-2023 "Exercise Nobo Uddog" ended on Thursday through the final exercise.

At this time, local eager residents of Delduar Upazila also observed the final exercise from various safe corners.

Bangladesh Army's 9th Infantry Division successfully conducted the exercise. The exercise involves the removal of obstacles by armored fleets, APCs as well as army engineers and assaults on enemy positions involving infantry and other corps.

Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan, Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division Lt Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman, Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Md Saiful Alam, General Officer Commanding of the Army Training and Doctrine Command Lt Gen Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury along with Principal Staff Officer of Army Headquarters, other senior military officers, journalists of Defense Journalists Association of Bangladesh (DJAB) and other media personnel were present.

Mentionable that on December 19, for the purpose of winter training, the headquarters and all the formations of the army were fully deployed in their respective responsible areas.

The main aim of this exercise was to develop professional knowledge and skills by practicing various military subjects in the field to prepare themselves for the service of the country.

Like every year, this year also in addition to winter training, the army formations are doing various welfare works including distribution of winter clothes and relief, free medical care and distribution of medicine among the helpless and distressed people in their responsible areas.

They also providing free treatment, counseling and medicine distribution to cattle in different areas. In addition to training, the army stands by the people in all possible cases.
