Seminar on Tannery Wastes and Health Risks held at IUB

The School of Life Sciences (SLS) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a seminar entitled ‘Exposure to Hexavalent Chromium from Tannery Wastes and Health Risks for the Urban Population in Bangladesh’ on Wednesday, 12 August 2015 on its campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Mr Mohammad Alauddin, Professor, Megerle Endowed Chair, Department of Chemistry, Wagner College, New York, USA, was the key-note speaker.

 

In his presentation Prof Alauddin mentioned various health hazards in the tannery of Hazaribagh, Dhaka. He also mentioned, due to tannery, air pollution has become a serious health issue for Dhaka city.

 

Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, delivered the welcome speech. Dr Rita Yusuf, Dean, School of Life Sciences, IUB, gave the vote of thanks.

 

The discussion was followed by a lively question-answer session. Members of faculty and management and a good number of students attended the seminar.
