Students of 2013-14 session of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) will go on strike Thursday demanding the cancellation of the ’33 credit’ system.
They confined the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of RUET Prof Rafiqul Islam beg to his office from 10am to 1:30pm, as part of their strike, UNB reports.
RUET sources said according to the ’33 credit’ system, which was introduced in the 2013-14 academic session, a first-year student will be promoted to the second year only if he/she gets 33 credits out of 40 in two semesters.
The agitated students said 40 students of their session could not achieve the targeted credit. As a result, they will not be promoted to second year.
The students alleged university authorities didn’t disclose the changed promotion rules till they had already started attending classes.
On the other hand, denying the students’ allegation, the VC said the system was clearly explained to the students in their orientation class.
