Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested one person with 16 gold bars near Kalaroa border in Satkhira on Thursday.
Mohammad Ahiduzzaman, 35, son of Sheikh Abdul Hamid of Keragachi village under the upazila, was trying to smuggle out the gold measuring 1.857kg.
Tipped off, BGB took strategic position near Haridash Thakur hermitage, arresting the person and seizing the gold bars.
Estimated value of the recovered gold is Tk 1,59,70,200, BGB statement said.
Ahiduzzaman has been handed over to the Kalaroa Police Station and gold bars deposited with Satkhira treasury office, it added.
