Salman Khan Pranto, former organising secretary of Dhaka City BCL (North), is front runner in the presidential race with council knocking at the door.
Councils of BCL Dhaka City (North) and Dhaka City (South) are scheduled to be held on December 2.
Many leaders are reportedly trying to get the presidential and other posts through the councils.
Secular and organisationally sound candidates having clean image with relatives not affiliated with BNP-Jamaat will be picked for leadership. Besides, the candidates popular among students and known for humanitarian gesture will be ahead of others in the race.
Apart from Pranto, Dhaka City (North) vice-president Sahabuddin Ahmed Sumon, Rupnagar Thana unit president and Dhaka City (North) joint general secretary Maruf Hossain Mithu, Dhaka North publication and publicity secretary Abdullah Al Noman, deputy office secretary Abu Naim, deputy school and student affairs secretary Saad Hasan Othoi, Dhanmondi thana BCL joint secretary Roky and Mohammadpur thana president Rasel are vying for the post.
About the council, Salman Khan Pranto said “I worked for common people amid Covid-19 pandemic. This trend will continue in the future. Strengthening the position of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thwarting the evil forces is my prime objective. I faced antagonism and conspiracies many a time for voicing objection to intruders into BCL.”
He said “If Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allows me to lead Dhaka City (North) BCL, I will form committees of all units through councils. Chhatra League is a revolutionary organisation of students formed by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. BCL workers always follow the ideals of Bangabandhu. I hailed from Awami League family.”
