Youth arrested with 15 gold bars weighing 1.749 kg in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have arrested a man named Emanur Rahman (19) along with 15 pieces of gold bars weighing 1 kg 749 grams in Benapole.

He was arrested from Daulatpur-Putkhali border area under Benapole Port police station on Friday (November 18) afternoon.

The accused is the son of Moshiar Rahman of Putkhali village under Benapole Port Thana.

Khulna-21 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Tanveer Rahman said, "Based on secret information, we got to know that a shipment of gold was being taken to India for smuggling through Daulatpur Putkhali road."

“On the basis of that information, a raid was conducted there and the speed of a suspected cyclist was stopped. Meanwhile, his body and bicycle were searched and 15 pieces of gold bars weighing 1 kg 749 grams were seized from under the seat. The estimated market value of seized gold is Tk 1.237 crore,” he said.

He further said that the arrested youth will be handed over to Benapole Port Police Station under the Gold Smuggling Act.
