Xi Jinping confronts Justin Trudeau over 'leaked' talks

Popular News

Nov 16, 2022: It's the first time in 3 years that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canada's PM Justin Trudeau met in person at the G20.

But reporters soon got a glimpse of just how the Chinese President deals with other world leaders. He was caught in this confrontation with Trudeau over what he called 'leaks' to the press from their meeting.

Xi told Trudeau through a translator that everything that was discussed was leaked to the newspapers something he termed as inappropriate.

Trudeau responded that in Canada, they believe in free and open and frank dialogue, and that is what they will continue to have. They will continue to look to work constructively together, but there will be things they will disagree on.

Xi was dismissive, saying ‘let’s create the conditions first,’ before shaking the Canadian prime minister’s hand. It may have been sealed with a handshake..but this latest face-to-face comes on the back of allegations and counter-allegations both nations have made against each other and also gives a ringside view of just how the Chinese head of state conducts himself on the world stage.
