A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant for celebrated British-Bangladeshi chef Tommy Miah and his company Tommy Miah's Hospitality Management Institute Managing Director Tajul Islam in a case filed over fraud.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahabub Ahmed passed the order after a hearing, the plaintiff's lawyer, Md Rubel Mia, confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
Later, the court recorded the statement of the plaintiff and summoned the accused to appear before it.
According to the case statement, Ali Zaker was appointed at Tommy Miah's Hospitality Management Institute on a contractual basis as a marketing adviser on December 29, 2021. He worked for four months, from January 1 to April 30.
However, the accused did not pay the Tk4.28 lakh owed to him as per the contract.
Ali Zaker also mentioned in the case statement that he received death threats when he asked for his dues on March 29.
On the same day, he filed a general diary at Banani police station.
Later, Ali Zaker sent a legal notice to the accused on June 1 asking for the money.
