Man arrested with 6 gold bars at Chowgacha border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man at Chowgacha in Jashore for possessing six gold bars intended to be smuggled out.

The man was arrested from a field in Lakshmipur border area under the upazila at 5:30 pm on Tuesday.

The detainee was identified as Atiyar Rahman (50), son of deceased Abdus Sattar of Godadharpur village of Chowgacha.

According to BGB, a patrol team led by Naik Rokan Uddin working in Masila BOP challenged the man at the field approximately 100 yards inside Bangladesh from Main Pillar 39 while he was cutting grass in the guise of a farmer. BGB searched and recovered a total of 6 gold bars weighing 1.2kg from his possession.

The approximate market value of the gold is Tk 96 lakh. The arrested person kept the gold bars in his possession for smuggling those out of the country, the BGB said.

Jashore 49 BGB commanding officer Lt Colonel Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui confirming the matter said the arrested person has been handed over to Chowgacha Police Station.
