A female ‘smuggler’ was arrested with 10 gold bars measuring 1.165kg at Jashore on Sunday.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) apprehended Ratna Begum, 34, for carrying the gold bars with an ulterior motive.
Lt Col Tanvir Rahman, commander of 21 BGB Battalion, said forces conducted a raid following an intelligence report and held Ranta Begum near 17/7 pillar of Putkhali border.
Searching Ratna, BGB men recovered 10 gold bars weighing 100 bhori worth Tk 82,34,800.
Later, Md Kamal Hossain, husband of Ratna Begum, was also arrested.
During interrogation, Ratna admitted that she wanted to smuggle the gold bars out of the country.
