Sugar price has increased as production is hampered due to scarcity of gas supply, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said.
He made this statement to reporters after fourth meeting of a task force on review of commodity prices and market situation at secretariat in the capital on Thursday.
“Due to inadequate supply of gas, more than 66 percent of unprocessed sugar has been stored in warehouse. Sugar will be able to sell at market if the supple of gas is sufficient,” he said.
Authorities, who are monitoring gas sector, said the situation of gas crisis is improving, he said.
Talking about commodity price, the minister said the situation of commodity prices in uncontrolled owing to dollar price hike.
“The condition of gas crisis is improving. So, it will impact production. As a result, the prices of sugar, along with other commodities, will decrease,” he said.
