Road accident kills 8,000 people; maims 80,000 annually: BJKS

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS) said road accidents kill 8,000 people and paralyse 80,000 others per year.
BJKS secretary general Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made the disclosure addressing a press conference marking National Road Safety Day 2022 at Paltan in the capital on Friday.
He called for revitalising National Road Safety Council (NRSC) and ensuring proper compensation to the victims.
Although the government is at the fag end of its term , its polls manifesto relating to road safety is yet to be implemented fully, he said.
In Bangladesh, 8,000 people are killed in road accidents and 80,000 are paralyzed every year. Of the victims, 67 percent belong to the age group of 15-64 years. Besides, 12,000 of the victims are below 17 years. Damage to GDP due to road crashes is 5.3 percent.”
